About

ZIN is a live performance practice where the body becomes the instrument. A sensor on the chest reads the heart in real time, capturing not just the beat but the fine variations between beats, the breath beneath the pulse, the quiet signatures of a nervous system regulating itself. These signals are translated, as they happen, into a field of music and video.

Calm coheres the image and warms the sound. Stress fractures both. The performer guides a meditation or performs while their own physiology composes the room. Every shift you see and hear is a shift inside a living body, in the moment it occurs. Nothing is pre-recorded, everything is meaningful.

What you witness is a person regulating themselves, made perceptible. The descent into stillness, the catch of tension, the slow return: each state writes itself into the music and the projected visuals. The signal degrades and reconstructs in time with the pulse, a transmission from the interior of one body to a room full of others.

It is part meditation, part concert, part medical instrument turned toward meaning rather than diagnosis. The same technology that monitors hearts in hospitals here asks a different question. Not what is wrong with this body, but what does it sound like to be alive inside it.
